Staff Reporter : A covered van loaded with garments for export was in route to Chattogram Seaport when it was hijacked in Sitakunda by a group of youths. However, since the van was equipped with a Carcopolo GPS tracker, Sitakunda police were able to recover both the van and garments worth approximately Tk 4 million in a short time. The stolen goods were recovered on Saturday, April 12.

According to police, on Friday, April 11, a shipment of garments in 1,564 cartons—valued at around Tk 4 million—left from Dip Knitwear Garments in Gazipur for export to the Netherlands via Chattogram Port. While traveling on the Dhaka–Chattogram highway, the van was hijacked along with the cargo in the Sitakunda area by a group of unidentified youths.

The next day, Saturday (April 12), the van owner filed a case at Sitakunda Model Police Station. Acting on GPS tracking data from Carcopolo, Additional Superintendent of Police (Sitakunda Circle) Labib Abdullah launched an operation and recovered the stolen garments from Feni. However, the van itself was not found there.

Later, with further assistance from Carcopolo, police recovered the stolen covered van from Golabaria Trunk Road in Begumganj upazila of Noakhali.
A representative from Carcopolo stated that the stolen van remained stationary in Feni for 1 hour and 6 minutes—during which time the thieves unloaded the garments. Afterwards, they drove the van to Begumganj upazila in Noakhali, from where the police eventually recovered it. The van is owned by a logistics company named “Bangladesh Logistics.”
Police officer Labib Abdullah confirmed that two individuals named Jamal and Rakib have been arrested in connection with the incident and were presented before court. He also stated that operations are ongoing to apprehend the remaining fugitives involved in the theft.
