Staff Reporter : For the first time in Bangladesh, Hajj pilgrims can now avail of international roaming services using their local mobile balance (Taka) instead of foreign currency. This long-anticipated regulatory breakthrough will significantly ease communication for over 87,000 Bangladeshi pilgrims traveling to Saudi Arabia for Hajj in 2025.
This landmark facility has been made possible through the tireless efforts of telecom industry, which has led the initiative in partnership with government authorities. A special government circular has been issued allowing this provision for the two-month Hajj period in 2025, responding to a longstanding request from telecom operators.
Previously, pilgrims had to queue up upon arrival in Saudi Arabia to purchase foreign SIM cards, often facing delays and difficulties in staying connected with family members.
