Staff Reporter : Dr. Sheikh Mohiuddin of Ad-Din Women’s Medical College has been elected as the first elected president of the Bangladesh Private Medical College Association (BPMCA). East-West Medical College Chairman Professor Dr. Moazzem Hossain has been elected as the general secretary.
Although elections are supposed to be held every two years as per the rules, no direct elections have been held in the 15 years since the organization was established. So far, some titleholders have been elected to positions through selection. This is the first time that they have been elected president and secretary of the organization of private medical college owners through direct voting.

The vote was held at the CIRDAP auditorium in the capital on Wednesday (July 16). Members voted from 10 am to 4 pm to elect the leadership of BPMCA.

Dr. Md. Moinul Ahsan-led three-member election board announced the election results at 10 pm on Wednesday. Dr. Muhammad Abdus Sabur of Bashundhara Ad-Din Medical College, Dhaka, has been elected as the organizing secretary from Mohiuddin-Mukit Parishad.

Dr. Sheikh Mohiuddin of Ad-Din Women’s Medical College in Dhaka is contesting for the post of president and Dr. M. A. Mukit, a professor at North Bengal Medical College in Sirajganj, is contesting for the post of general secretary.

On the other hand, from the Afroza-Moazzem panel, Munnu Medical College Chairman Afroza Khanam Rita is contesting for the post of President and East-West Medical College Chairman Professor Dr. Md. Moazzem Hossain is contesting for the post of General Secretary.
Elections were held for a total of 21 posts of the BPMCA Executive Committee, including one for the post of President, one for the post of General Secretary, five for the post of Vice-President, four for the post of Joint Secretary, one for the post of Finance Secretary, one for the post of Organizing Secretary, three for the post of Divisional Organizing Secretary, one for the post of Legal Affairs Secretary, one for the post of Education, Culture and Social Welfare Affairs Secretary and three for the post of Executive Member. 92 votes out of 110 votes were cast in the election.
